Flogging Molly @ The Chance Photos

I saw Flogging Molly at the Chance last night with Kristen. It was a great show with 2 interesting openers. The first band was from Dublin and they were called Mighty Stef and the second band was called Rev. Peyton and His Big Damn Band from Nashville. Rev. Peyton looked like my friend Kenn a little bit haha. They were a fast bluegrass rock type of band and just a sight to see live. Even if you don't like that type of music it was still a great set! Flogging Molly rocked the place down, and I mean almost literally. the balcony at the Chance was FUCKING SHAKING so much I was grabbing on the railing, waiting for the thing to collapse. It was scary haha. But anywho, I got some great photos from the balcony with my lovely 70-200mm 2.8 lens! Check it out below:

Top 25 Most Tragic Deaths In Music History

When you stop and think about it, so many rock legends have died like: Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, John Lennon and Bob Marley to name a few. ReadJunk.com wanted to pay tribute to our favorite dead rock heroes, so we decided to give them a proper shout-out and an obituary so they could continue being remembered. But remember, we couldn't list every single rockstar death so we came up with the Top 25 most tragic deaths in music history.

25. GG Allin:
He was the most disgusting singer in rock history. He had no talent whatsoever, but loved to put on an entertaining live show that included peeing on people, eating his own shit, and ripping off bats’ heads and eating them. What moron would pay money to see someone do those things, when you can just watch a homeless person in NYC do it for free? GG Allin committed suicide in his New York City apartment after he found out he had HIV. Requested in his will, his body was dressed in a Hawaiian shirt and his body was shot out of a cannon. All his friends and fans celebrated his death with a carnival following the funeral.

24. Bradley Nowell:
Brad was the lead singer and bass player of the California hippie reggae band Sublime. After the band signed with Skunk Records, Sublime took off and was popular among college students and vagabonds. Many of their songs were at the top of the Billboard charts, including the songs "What I Got" and "Wrong Day." In 1997, after the band’s major label debut got released, Brad Nowell died of a cocaine overdose in his apartment. Nowell was honored in a benefit concert where such California bands like the Foo Fighters and Gwen Stefani played.

The Pilfers played another reunion show last night at Knitting Factory in New York City. I'll have a full review up this week but I wanted to share some of the photos I took last night. I managed to get a decent spot right up front, on the left hand side of the stage. I couldn't really get a lot of photos of some of the members of Bigger Thomas but I managed to get some great shots of the Pilfers. Like always, the band played an excellent set and I wish they came back full time again. But I'll take what I can get and see them when I can. Here's some photos of the Pilfers:

My Top 20 Favorite Live Albums

When it comes to live albums, they have to be REALLY good for me to like them. Most of the time, the live albums that bands release don't sound that great or they don't really capture the essence of their live shows. But over the years, the list of great live albums has been growing for me. In this article, I'll explain which live albums are my favorites and why you should give them a listen!

1. The Levellers – “The Fiddle and the Drum"
This live album is an official fanclub bootleg, at least I think it's an official release. The Levs sound great and are very energetic. Another reason why I love this release because it's the very first album I heard from the band. Don't tell the band, but thanks to file sharing, I wouldn't have heard of the Levellers if it wasn't for downloading. Hey, and don't give me crap for downloading because I've spent so much money on the Levellers you wouldn't believe (like flying to England twice to see them live)! But anyway, The Levellers play mostly tracks from “Levelling the Land" and “A Weapon Called the Word." “The Game" and “Liberty Song" were THE songs from this album that got me hooked onto the Levellers. If I had to recommend a live album by my favorite band, then this one would be it.

2. The Pogues – “Ultimate Collection" (Disc 2)
The recent Pogues “Ultimate Collection" was an official 2-disc release by the Pogues that came out in 2005. The first disc served as a best-of disc with many songs you'd expect to hear. The second disc is a live performance at London's Brixton Academy in 2001. I'm sure some people would prefer the unofficial Streams of Whiskey live album since the band was in their prime then. I actually think this one is the far superior one because there's just so many great songs being played here. Shane MacGowan's vocals sound excellent and the rest of the band playing & singing sound equally great. Definitely pick up this Ultimate Collection album if you call yourself a Pogues fan.

3. Madness – “Universal Madness"
I saw Madness around the time this album was released, and that show could been one of the best concerts i've ever been to. Their performance on this album is great, and you really get the sense of a live concert. You hear the crowd cheering, and you feel like your at the concert with them. There's 13 tracks in total and each one of them is a classic. Well I guess hearing a skinhead reggae version of Swan Lake I could have done without but the rest of the album is almost flawless. “Our House" and “Bed & Breakfast Man" stood out in my mind.

4. Bob Marley and the Wailers – “Live"
Granted there are only 8 tracks on this album, it's still an infamous show and one of the best live recordings from Marley & the Wailers. You should be able to recognize at least one song from this live album, and that's “No Woman No Cry." It's the second track on the Wailer's “Legend" album, which I think could be the best Greatest Hits album ever but that's another article for another time. “No Woman No Cry" is such a powerful song that sounds ten times better live than it does in the studio. It certainly doesn't hold the same impact as hearing it on their studio album. Another notable song that I love from this album is “Trenchtown Rock," which starts the album off. There are other great live albums from the Wailers like “Babylon By Bus" but this one stands out from the rest. I believe there might have been a live video from this concert as well? At least check out the live album if anything.

5. Ozzy – “Tribute"
The Randy Rhodes Tribute was one of the very first live albums I owned. I think it might have been my first Ozzy album as well. I got into Ozzy right around when “No Rest for the Wicked" came out and I saw him live that time as well. This live album really captures how crazy Ozzy was live, plus all the songs being played here are amazing! Though hearing them in person is just as great. The album cover is quite iconic as well. It's right up there with The Clash's London Calling album cover. This is by far the best Ozzy live album out there. “CRAZY!!"

Photography Ramblings & New Photos at SkaPunkPhotos.com

I've been posting photos like crazy over at my photography website SkaPunkPhotos.com, or BryanKremkau.com. I've been waiting since December to post pictures from my UK trip but the site only just launched April 2nd. I still have to upload my Edinburgh, Scotland pictures up on the site but I'll do that this weekend. This week, I posted photo sets of the UK folk band 3 Daft Monkeys, folk singer called Benji, indie folk rock band Larrikin Love and the Pogues. Plus all my London photos from December 2006. I put a lot of those on my flickr account but added wise ass captions and added a lot more pix as well...

This week I've been looking into making money with my photography (some how). I would love to get paid for taking concert pictures or any type of pictures really. I might start applying for agencies or putting the photos on stock photography websites and see what happens. I just need more of an income so I can buy new toys, like the Nikkor 50mm f1.4 D lens I just got today in the mail. I've been looking into getting a new lens for awhile because the ones I have are too slow for concerts. This one will be awesome but it's a fixed lens so I might have to move around quite a bit to get some different shots. We'll see. I'm already liking this lens already, it's super fast and just what I need. Going to take pictures at The Queers show in Wilkes-Barre Tuesday. Should be fun.
